This wedding is really close to my heart – romantic and full of love. Sule & Caglar were married on a beautiful day in Chios, Greece. The lovely couple recreated a romantic, organic, minimalistic wedding at their favourite place. Both Sule & Calgar are Turkish but have lived most of their lives in Amsterdam. So to celebrate their big day, they flew from Amsterdam with around 150 guests. As a Chios wedding photographer, I feel blessed to have been part of the occasion, full of opulent elements and an imperial vibe running through the details. They have always preferred Greece as the first choice to get married because they are closely connected to Greek culture and love every bit of it.
I was excited when the couple told me about their decision to marry on Chios island. This is because I live in an old Greek town, Alacati, just 20 minutes away from Chios by ferry. I usually visit it to meet some of my close friends. Also, as a Chios wedding photographer, I love this island as it has the most beautiful beaches, mastic trees and mediaeval villages.
Now coming back to Sule & Caglar’s beautiful wedding. They hosted their big day at Archontiko Riziko – an 18th-century Genoese mansion in Kampos village. Since Chios is not far from Turkey, it, therefore, made it easier for their Turkey guests to reach the venue.
Even though the wedding was at Archontiko Riziko, the couple got ready in another mansion. I began documenting stunning portraits of the couple while they were getting ready. Sule looked surreal in a gorgeous satin white gown with a regal flair perfectly matching the historic mansion. Caglar opted for a black tuxedo, making him look like a film star from the 60s. I also had the pleasure of capturing their first look, paired with the property’s spectacular backdrops.
The couple chose to say I do at the breathtaking setting of the mansion. As the couple exchanged vows, all guests joyfully cheered for their new beginnings. Following, all guests were ushered for the cocktail hour.
I usually do an intimate couple shoot after the ceremony, but with this lovely duo, we decided to elevate the experience and have a pre-wedding session, so that they can have astounding images without any pressure. For that reason, we visited several breathtaking spots to frame their love! The first place we visited for their session was Mesta, a historical mediaeval village that complemented their story most wonderfully. The second was Pyrgi, which is quite famous for its architecture and unique decorations of the houses – a must-see for any couple! And we ended the pre-wedding session on a volcanic beach – Mavra Volia. This is, in fact, one of the most popular beaches in Greece due to its volcanic nature. It resulted from a huge eruption nearby from the once-active volcano Psaronas.
For their reception, the couple chose a wedding dinner inspired by the overflowing flower decor and many fairy lights that made the atmosphere dreamy. After the toasts, they had an incredible first dance sealing their love forever. Everyone joined and danced the night away!
Sule & Caglar’s destination wedding in Chios was an unforgettable experience for everyone! I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Sule & Caglar for inviting me to their big day.
